Most Aboriginal coastal languages between Sydney and Adelaide are now extinct. Many of the names for the animals have been lost. Explorers recorded several names for penguins during their first encounters. The 'indala' or 'little penguin', is an example of one of these lost languages from the south coast of Australia.
