Australian Languages prior to European arrival
Prior to the arrival of the first fleet in 1776 there were approximately 260 Australian languages and 600 dialects. today there are only 145 and 110 of these are considered critically endangered. several languages, such as Eora, are 'extinct languages' with no native speakers left. there are a number of campaigns throughout australia to preserve and restore aboriginal languages.
